Big second quarter helps carry Eagles past Wolverines

East Henderson built a 13-point halftime lead Tuesday and went on to hand Polk County a 58-47 defeat in boys basketball play in Flat Rock.

The Wolverines (2-7) led 7-6 at the end of the first period, but the Eagles (4-4) exploded for 25 points in the second quarter to grab a 31-18 halftime edge.

Dominique Carson scored 16 points to lead Polk County, with Bryson Edwards adding 11 points and Keyandre Thomas scoring 11 points with five rebounds.

Tyler Staley had seven points and five rebounds, with Wesley Royster scoring two points.

Polk County is scheduled to return to action on Dec. 27, traveling to Montgomery County to take part in the Timberwolf Holiday Classic. The Wolverines will face Christ The King at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 in their tournament opener.
