Berea pulls away in second half to top Polk County

Berea broke open a tight game in the third quarter Friday, pulling away to hand Polk County an 81-60 setback in the opening round of the Knights Christmas Tournament at North Henderson.

The Wolverines (1-8) drop into the consolation bracket and will face either North Henderson or Pickens (S.C.) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at North.

Polk County trailed just 32-27 at halftime. But Destin Eichelberger had nine points in the third period and Jay Williams added seven as Berea (6-3) raced to a 60-38 lead by the end of the quarter.

Gunnar Alm led Polk County with 23 points, with Aaron Jackson adding 17. Khristian Littlejohn, Jayce Edwards and Chase Stansbury each added four points, with Khalil Austin and Dallas Littlejohn each scoring three.

Nate Fagan added two points for the Wolverines.
