Bearcats top Wolverines in MF7 tournament opener

Hendersonville raced to a large halftime lead Monday and went on to hand Polk County a 104-49 defeat in the opening round of the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys basketball tournament in Hendersonville.

The Bearcats (23-2) opened a 68-38 lead at intermission, then held the Wolverines (7-14) to just 11 points in the second half.

Senior Dominique Carson likely closed his Polk County career with a 17-point effort, with Wayne Carson adding 10 points. Mackus Simpson added eight points and Kris Littlejohn had seven points.

Seniors Brandon West (five points) and Kanye Staley (two) rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines, who are not expected to receive an at-large berth into the state 2A playoffs. Polk County currently sits 39th in the latest 2A West RPI rankings and would likely need to move up to at least 35th to receive an at-large berth.
