Avery ends unbeaten run for Polk junior varsity

Avery raced to a 22-13 halftime lead Friday and went on to hand Polk County’s junior varsity its first loss of the season, a 59-43 setback in Newland.

The Wolverines dropped to 3-1, 2-1 in Western Highlands Conference games.

Avery extended the lead to 16 entering the final period, a frentic quarter in which both teams each scored 21 points.

Antonio Simpson led Polk County with 18 points, with Mackus Simpson scoring six. Wayne Carson and Lawson Carter each had five, with Laden Bradley scoring three.

Avery Harden, William Simpson and Vincent Twitty each had two for Polk County, which is scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday at home against Mitchell.
