Polk County senior Avery Harden blasted out of the bunker on the first hole at Tryon Country Club en route to carding a birdie on the hole

Mountain Foothills 7 Conference golfers couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon Thursday.

A sunny, 73-degree afternoon provided the backdrop as conference golfers tackled Tryon Country Club. It proved to be a good day for Hendersonville as the Bearcats claimed an 18-stroke win over East Rutherford in the opening league match of the season.

Hunter Toney’s 79 led Hendersonville to a team total of 336, topping the Cavaliers’ 354. R-S Central and chase followed, with Polk County taking fifth on a soggy TCC course still drying from Wednesday’s rain.

The Wolverines posted a team score of 379, led by senior Avery Harden, who carded a 78 and finished third overall for the day. Chase’s Brock Reid (74) and Garrett Pinkerton (77) took the top two spots.

Tourin Jackson followed Harden with a 94 for Polk County, with Myles Menetre finishing with a 96. Piercen Edwards (111) and Turner Loveland (116) rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines.

The conference schools are scheduled to meet again on Monday, this time at Cleghorn Golf and Countrb Club.
