Polk County finished third in Wednesday’s 18-hole Western Highlands Conference golf match at Grassy Creek Golf & Country Club at Spruce Pine.
Tourin Jackson led the Wolverines with an 82 on the par-72 course, while Brody Wilkins shot 85 and Tallis Metcalf finished with 88. Piercen Edwards added an 89 and Gage Harden rounded out the scoring with 104.
Polk County totaled 344 to tie Avery for third place. Mitchell won the team competition with 315, followed by Hendersonville (334), Polk County and Avery (344), Madison (351), Owen (379) and Mountain Heritage (386).

Avery’s Hank Johnson was medalist with a 69, while Mitchell’s Bryce Miller finished second at 70. Johnson, the WHC Player of the Year last season, had six birdies on the day, including three straight on holes 12-14. Miller also had six birdies, including four on the back nine.
Mitchell’s Eli Snyder and Owen’s Carson Murphy tied for third at 73, and Madison’s Abram Allison rounded out the top five with 74.
