Wolverine golfers top WHC field at Grassy Creek
Polk County’s boys golf team put together one of its best team efforts of the season Tuesday to win a Western Highlands Conference match at Grassy Creek Golf and Country Club in Spruce Pine.
The Wolverines carded a team total of 332 to defeat Mitchell by six shots on the Mountaineers’ home course. Avery placed third with a team total of 362.
While Mitchell’s Connor Warren took medalist honors with a 73, Polk County had the next three low finishers in Evan Jones (77), Avery Harden (80) and Carson Emory (82). Reilly Yoder posted a 93 to complete the day for the Wolverines.
Avery won the day’s girls competition with the only full team in the field.
Polk County is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday with a match at Brevard.
