Wolverine golfers conclude season at WHC tourney

Polk County’s girls golf team wrapped up the 2019 season on Tuesday, competing in the Western Highlands Conference Tournament at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

The Wolverines were one of only two schools in the conference to field a full team. Avery was the other and fired a team score of 137 to claim the conference championship. Polk took second with a score of 185.

Avery’s Ellie Pittman earned Player of the Year honors, firing a 42 on Tuesday. Teammates Adriana Brookshire (47), Addison Rudicile (48) and Payton Spencer (54) joined Pittman on the All-Western Highlands Conference team, with Owen’s Keira Johnson (45) and Mountain Heritage’s Madison Hughes (50) rounding out the team.

Avery’s Jay Smith was named the WHC Coach of the Year.

Kaylin Jenkins fired a 58 to lead Polk County, with Emily Prince posting a 63 and Tori Thompson a 64. Caelan Gaul’s 69 completed the scoring for the Wolverines.
