Wolverine Kropp qualifies for state golf tournament
Polk County High’s Ashley Kropp qualified for the state 2A/1A golf tournament with her showing Monday at the 2A/1A regional tourney at Linville Falls Golf Club in Marion.
Kropp will compete in the state tournament Oct. 26-27 at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Pinehurst.
Playing the difficult Linville Falls course, Kropp posted a score of 120.
“The course was really tough with a lot of narrow fairways and not a lot of room to make a mistake between the fairway and hazards,” said Polk County head coach Ty Stott. “Ashley controls the ball well and I think that was an advantage on the tough course because it kept her from getting into trouble on most of the holes.”
Hendersonville won the regional with a team round of 285, defeating Avery by 17 shots. Hendersonville sophomore Juliet Townsend and Avery’s Paige Church were the low individual players with rounds of 87.
