Polk set to chase 2A state golf title

Polk County will begin its quest for a state 2A golf championship on Monday as the Wolverines tee off in the state tournament at Foxfire Resort and Golf in Pinehurst.

Polk County will be one of 12 teams vying for a state title on the 6,756-yard Red course at Foxfire. The course is the same one on which Polk County competed in the 2021 1A state championship. Three of the four Wolverines playing this week participated in that event.

All teams, plus individuals who qualified for the state tourney, will begin teeing off Monday at 9 a.m. in the two-day event.

The Wolverines advanced to this week’s tournament by placing second in the 2A West Regional with a team score of 323. Only West Regional champ Lincoln Charter (317) and Midwest champion East Surry (314) had a better regional score.

Evan Jones will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Monday for Polk, with Reilly Yoder following at 9:39 a.m. Avery Harden (9:48) and Casey Beiler (9:57) round out Polk’s tourney team. The Wolverines will each play with players from Salisbury and Midway.

Teams competing this week include Washington, North Johnston, East Duplin, Midway, Clinton, Raleigh Charter, East Surry, Salisbury, West Davidson, Lincoln Charter, Bandys and Polk County.
