
Polk golfers in fourth after opening round of state 2A tourney
Polk County is squarely in the hunt for a 2A state golf championship.
The Wolverines finished the opening day of state tournament play at Foxfire Golf Club in Pinehurst in fourth place, 13 strokes behind co-leaders East Surry and Midway.
Those two teams posted a score of 328, with West Davidson in third at 336 and Polk County in fourth at 341.
Close behind the Wolverines are Clinton (344), Bandys (347), Lincoln Charter (347) and Salisbury (347).
The tournament concludes on Tuesday.
Evan Jones had the low round of the day for the Wolverines, posting a 41-39–80 that tied him for 16th place. Beddingfield’s Drew O’Neil carded a two-over-par 74 to take the individual lead over East Surry’s Bradley Davis Jr. and West Stokes’ Brandon Bowman, each one shot back.
Casey Beiler notched an 86 for Polk, with Reilly Yoder posting an 87 and Avery Harden recording an 88.
Polk County’s quartet will tee off in the second round beginning with Harden at 10:24 a.m., followed by Yoder (10:33 a.m.), Beiler (10:42 a.m.) and Jones (10:51 a.m.).
