
PCHS roundup: Golf, tennis teams fall in road matches
Polk County’s boys golf team battled Asheville Christian Academy on near-even terms Wednesday, the Lions eventually pulling out a 15-stroke win in a nine-hole match at High Vista Golf Club.
ACA posted a team total of 172 to top Polk County’s 187.
Freshman Hunter Lynch had a solid day, firing a 42 to lead the Wolverines. Jaylon Bontrager carded a 47, Dillon Overholt had a 48 and Josh Chupp and Gabe O’Brien each had 50s for Polk. Tyrese Miller added a 59.
The Wolverines are back on the course Thursday for the third straight day, hosting Western Highlands Conference schools at Tryon Country Club.
TENNIS TEAM TOPPED AT OWEN: Polk County dropped an 8-1 boys tennis decision Wednesday to an Owen team leading the Western Highlands Conference and likely to win it.
The Warhorses swept all six singles matches in Swannanoa to ensure the win.
Polk County’s lone victory came at No. 1 doubles, where Henry Monts and Payton Stott teamed to beat Micah Davis and Elias Peters, 6-3.
The Wolverines travel Thursday to face A.C. Reynolds in a non-conference match.
