Polk County has named Byon Morrisey as its new boys golf coach, athletic director Michelle Fagan announced.
Morrisey served as the Wolverines’ girls golf coach last season, leading the team to a runner-up finish in the Western Highlands Conference tournament. She guided Charley Dusenbury, Reeve Carroll and Addie Buss to the 3A West Regional, where the team placed sixth.
“She brings a great expertise of the game to our program and has already proven her ability to develop talent at a high level,” Fagan said. “Following her tremendous job leading three of our women’s golfers to regionals this past season, we are confident she is the right person to lead our men’s team forward.”

Morrisey’s playing resume includes competing at Appalachian State University and playing on the Futures Tour for two seasons. Her coaching experience includes serving as an assistant at UNC Chapel Hill and teaching and coaching in Rutherford County Schools for 12 years.
As a golf professional, Morrisey achieved Class A credentialing with the LPGA and worked as an instructor at institutions such as John Jacobs Golf School in Naples, Fla., and ParXlent Golf Academies in Hendersonville.
Morrisey holds a master’s degree in physical education from UNC-Chapel Hill and has completed additional coursework in pedagogy from the University of Georgia.
Polk County’s boys team finished seventh in last year’s state 1A tournament. Four players from that team are expected to return: Brody Wilkins, Tourin Jackson, Piercen Edwards and Gage Harden.
