Reece Turner had pitched a gem through five innings Thursday when olk County Middle head coach Daniel Painter told him he was coming out of the game.
Turner had other ideas.
“Give me one more,” Turner said.

Painter obliged, and Turner closed out Polk County Middle’s 8-3 victory over Brevard Middle in Thursday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball game at the Polk County Recreation Complex, giving the Wolverines their first win of the season.
Turner pitched all six innings, allowing four hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out two to earn the victory.
Polk Middle (1-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Carter Wood doubled and scored on Callaway Cameron’s two-run double that also brought home Brantley Hall.
Brevard Middle (1-3) tied the game at 2-2 in the third before the Wolverines answered with three runs in the bottom half. Cameron singled and Lawson Yoder followed with a single before Oakley McDowell’s two-run double gave Polk Middle a 4-2 lead. Reece Turner added an RBI single to extend the advantage to 5-2.
Brevard pulled within 5-3 in the fifth before Polk added a run in the fourth on Cameron’s RBI single and two more in the fifth to build an 8-3 cushion.
Wood led Polk Middle with two hits, including two doubles, and scored twice. Cameron finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, a run and a double, while McDowell contributed a hit, two runs, two RBI and a double. Reece Turner, Wesley Turner and Yoder each added one hit, with Reece Turner driving in a run.
Polk Middle hosts Asheville Christian Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
