Polk County's Evan Jones awaits a pitch during a recent game

Wolverines held hitless in loss at East Rutherford

East Rutherford’s Mason Huffstickler kept Polk County’s offense hitless on Tuesday, his no-hit effort sparking the Cavaliers to a 5-0 victory in Bostic.

Huffstickler struck out eight, walked three and needed just 79 pitches for his no-hitter as East Rutherford (16-5, 9-2) remained in a tie for first place in the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference race.

Polk County (8-8, 4-5) only advanced a runner past first base in the seventh inning, that coming when Coble Cameron was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Jackson Beiler walked with one out. Huffstickler, though, got two infield outs to end the threat and the game.

Micah Hill took the loss for Polk County, allowing seven hits, striking out five and walking two.

The two teams are set to meet again Friday at The Bottoms, with first pitch expected around 7 p.m.
