Wolverines ground Eagles in 11-1 road triumph

Polk County rapped out 13 hits Thursday, rolling to an 11-1 victory over East Henderson in a non-conference game in Flat Rock.

The Wolverines (8-4) built an early 6-0 lead, then capped the day with two runs in the sixth to end the game an inning early by run rule.

East Henderson dropped to 3-7 with the loss.

Eight different Polk batters had at least one hit, with Micah Hill leading the way with a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI. Hill had two of the Wolverines’ six doubles in the game.

Hill’s leadoff double in the second inning started a four-run rally that put Polk in control of the game. RBI doubles by Lawson Carter and Coble Cameron and a run-scoring single by Chan Barber all contributed to Polk’s 5-0 lead at that point.

The Wolverines added a run in the third, three more in the fifth and the two runs in the sixth.

Barber, Cameron and Karson Scruggs each had two hits, with Carter, Angus Weaver, Landen Bradley and Riley Searcy each adding a hit. Bradley and Carter each had two RBI.

Hill pitched three innings to earn the win, with Carter throwing two scoreless innings and Barber adding another scoreless inning.

The two teams are slated to meet again Monday at The Bottoms.
