Waynesville Middle offense stifles Polk in season opener

Polk County Middle dropped a 17-1 decision Monday at Waynesville Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference baseball season opener for both teams.

The Mountaineers were solid at the plate to overcome the effort of Polk starter Sawyer Huff, whom head coach Alston Rikard said “battled on the mound.”

“Gavin Waldbillig was a wall behind the plate,” Rikard said. “Waynesville just hit the ball well.”

Nate Fagan’s two-out base hit scored Simms Harris for the Wolverines’ run.

Polk Middle will return to action next Monday, traveling to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
