Waynesville Middle scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-2 victory over Polk County Middle in Thursday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball game at Polk County Recreation Complex.
The Mountaineers took an 8-0 lead in the first before Polk County Middle answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Wesley Turner grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Callaway Cameron and Brantley Hall to score on an error by the first baseman.
Waynesville added single runs in the second and third innings before scoring three more in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.

Brantley Hall, Callaway Cameron and Lawson Yoder each collected one hit for Polk County Middle. Cameron doubled and stole a base, while Hall scored a run.
Polk County Middle (0-3, 0-2 BRC) travels to Apple Valley Middle on Monday.
