Turner masters ACA as Polk Middle wins second straight

2 min read

For three-plus innings Thursday, Reece Turner largely cruised through Asheville Christian Academy’s lineup.

The Polk Middle pitcher carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning, and by the time the visitors finally collected their first hit, the game was already long decided.

Turner’s dominant performance on the mound combined with a nine-run second-inning explosion lifted the Wolverines to a 14-2 victory in Thursday’s non-conference baseball game at the Polk County Recreation Complex.

Turner retired the first eight batters he faced before issuing a walk in the third inning. He finished with 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing no hits with three walks and one strikeout. Jameson Clue allowed a single before recording the final out of the fourth.

The game turned in the second inning when Polk Middle (2-4) sent 14 batters to the plate. The Wolverines combined five hits with four walks and a hit batter to break open a scoreless game and build a 9-0 cushion.

Brantley Hall led the offensive charge with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Callaway Cameron added a double, two RBI and two stolen bases, while Wesley Turner contributed a hit and two RBI. Reece Turner helped his own cause with two hits and two runs.

Josh Odel and Noah Hammond each added one hit and Gunnar Price drove in two runs.

The Wolverines tacked on four more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to invoke the mercy rule and secure their second consecutive victory.

Polk County Middle travels to Apple Valley Middle on Monday.
