Polk County scored three runs in the fourth inning Wednesday to break open a close game en route to a 7-3 win over East Henderson in junior varsity baseball play at The Bottoms.
Polk County improved to 5-2 with the win. The Wolverines are scheduled to travel to Madison on Friday for a Western Highlands Conference game.
Polk held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the fourth, when the Wolverines loaded the bases with one out as Jackson Beiler was hit by a pitch, Michael Simoncic walked and Shane Parris singled.
Bryson Edwards drew a walk to score one run, and Coble Cameron drove in another with an infield grounder. Jonathan Edwards then drilled a two-out single to give the Wolverines a 5-1 lead.
Polk added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Brad Marcello walked, then moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Chan Barber’s single to center. Beiler then drilled a double down the left-field line to plate Barber.
Parris finished 3-for-4 with a double and triple, with Beiler 2-for-2 with an RBI and Jonathan Edwards going 2-for-3. Bryson Edwards, Barber and Simoncic each had a hit for Polk.
Barber earned the win, pitching six innings and striking out six while allowing six hits.
