Third-inning outburst carries Waynesville Middle past Polk

Waynesville Middle School erupted for eight runs in the third inning en route to a 13-1 win over Polk Middle School in the Wolverines’ season opener at Polk County Recreation Complex.

Already up 1-0, the Mountaineers took command of the game with the third-inning outburst. Waynesville added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Polk County got on the board with a run in the fourth, Wilson Edwards scoring on a base hit by Jared Wolfe.

Edwards and Wolfe had the only hits for Polk County (0-1), which returns to action on Thursday at Brevard Middle School.
