Polk County Middle School’s baseball team struggled Monday against a tough Rugby Middle squad, falling 13-0 in a Blue Ridge Conference matchup that ended after four innings due to the run rule.
The Wolverines (0-3) were unable to generate much offense against the Raiders (1-1), who seized control early with a seven-run first inning. Rugby followed with five more runs in the second and added another in the third to secure the victory.
Carter Wood provided the lone bright spot for Polk Middle’s offense, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Wood also pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
