Rugby Middle scored six runs in the third inning to break open a close game and defeated Polk County Middle 12-3 in Monday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball game at Polk County Recreation Complex.
Polk Middle jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning on run-scoring hits from Callaway Cameron and Oakley McDowell. Cameron drove in the first run with a double to left field, and McDowell followed with an RBI single to center.
Rugby (8-0) answered with its big third inning to take control. The Wolverines pulled within 7-3 in the bottom of the third when Brantley Hall tripled to right field and scored on Cameron’s line drive single to left, but would get no closer.

Cameron led Polk Middle at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Hall tripled and scored a run, and McDowell added an RBI single.
The Wolverines (4-7) travels to Brevard Middle on Thursday.
