A trio of R-S Central pitchers checked Polk County on three hits Tuesday en route to a 10-0 victory in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference junior varsity baseball play in Rutherfordton.
The Hilltoppers improved to 10-2, with the Wolverines dropping to 3-8.
How it happened: R-S Central scored two runs in the first, then put together an eight-run second inning to take charge of the game.
Five walks, two errors and two hit batters helped the Hilltoppers build their early lead.
Polk had its best chance to score in the second inning, with Bryson Jones reached on an error and Peyton Hoots singled. But the Hilltoppers sandwiched strikeouts around an infield fly to escape without allowing a run.
At the plate: Hoots finished 2-for-2 and Nick Sotomayer was 1-for-1.
Next up: The two teams will meet again Friday at The Bottoms in a 4 p.m. start.
