Polk to host Owen in 3A baseball playoff opener

A familiar foe will await Polk County in the opening round of the state 3A baseball playoffs.

The Wolverines earned the 10th seed in the 3A West bracket and will host 23rd-seeded Owen in Tuesday’s playoff opener. That game is set for 6 p.m. at The Bottoms.

The Warhorses (6-15) and Wolverines (15-9) met twice this season in Western Highlands Conference play, with Polk taking a 14-3 win at Owen and then needing extra innings to top the Warhorses 4-3 at home.

Senior Jackson Warnock has led Owen offensively this season, hitting a WHC-best .542 with 16 RBI and 22 stolen bases. Fellow senior Gabe Mahar is hitting .431 with 17 RBI.

The winner of Tuesday’s playoff opener will advance to a second-round game at Walkertown (16-6) on Friday.
