Polk Middle rally falls just short in loss to Macon

Polk County Middle suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss Tuesday to Macon Middle in Blue Ridge Conference baseball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Wolverines (1-2) trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, but got a leadoff double from Blaine Turner, who scored with two outs on a steal of home.

Polk then got two batters on base, but had the potential tying run thrown out at third base to end the game.

Macon Middle scored the game’s first run, but Polk Middle answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Alex Perry walked and Noah Harden singled before Sawyer Huff’s two-out single scored Perry. Turner drew a walk to load the bases, and Kaleb McEntyre was hit by a pitch to bring home Harden. Piercen Edwards then drew a walk to give Polk a 3-1 lead.

Macon answered with four runs in the third, and the score held at 5-3 until the final inning.

Harden and Huff each had two hits for Polk, with Perry, Nate Fagan, Turner and Simms Harris each adding a hit.

Perry took the loss, giving uo five runs on four hits in four innings. Edwards pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
