Macon Middle fashioned a pair of four-run rallied in the fourth and fifth innings Thursday to power past Polk County Middle 11-9 in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference baseball battle at Polk County Recreation Complex.
Trailing 5-3 entering the fourth, Macon Middle (1-1) took advantage of five Polk Middle walks to score four times to take a 7-5 lead.
The Wolverines (0-2) responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Coble Cameron singled to open the inning, moved around to third on a pair of passed balls and scored on Chan Barber’s grounder, cutting the deficit to 7-6.
Macon pounded out a triple and four singles in the top of the fifth, scoring four more runs to build an 11-6 advantage. Back came Polk County in the bottom of the fifth, as Collin Searcy drew a one-out walk and Evan Jones drew a two-out walk, with Searcy and Jones then scoring on a Macon error on Cameron’s at-bat. Polk Middle scored a lone run in the first as Jones and Cameron walked and Bryson Edwards singled to load the bases with no outs. A one-out grounder by Barber drove home Jones with the Wolverines’ lone run of the inning.
Jones’ infield grounder in the second drove in O’Neal Price to make it a 2-2 game, and Polk grabbed its 5-3 lead in the third as two runs scored on a Macon error and Jones drove home Price with a single to left.
Macon pitchers held Polk Middle to four hits, but issued 10 walks. Jones, Cameron, Edwards and Barber had those hits for the Wolverines.
Polk County Middle concludes its three-game homestand on Monday, hosting Canton Middle at 4:30 p.m.
