Polk Middle baseball takes 5-4 win in home opener

Polk County Middle School built a 5-1 lead after four innings Monday and hung on to earn a 5-4 win over Brevard Middle in baseball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.

Clark Phipps pitched six innings to get the win in the Wolverines’ home opener, striking out four and scattering six hits. Avery Edwards pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

The Wolverines got a 2-for-2, one RBI performances from Evan Rimer and Bryson Ridings to lead the offense. Grayson Jones, Elijah Sutton and Phipps each had one hit and an RBI in the win. Jones had two of Polk County’s six stolen bases.

Polk County (2-0) is scheduled to host Madison Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
