Casey Beiler held Mitchell to just one hit and Polk County’s offense delivered plenty of its own as the Wolverine junior varsity romped to an 11-1 victory Tuesday at The Bottoms.
Beiler struck out eight and walked two in the complete game. He allowed only a single to Mitchell’s first batter of the game, Alex Street, who later scored in the inning.
Polk finally answered that run with four of its own in the third. Landon Bradley’s leadoff single and walks to Dustin Shook and Beiler loaded the bases with no outs. Bryson Jones’ infield grounder scored one run before Kendall McEntyre ripped a two-run single to center to make it 3-1.
With two outs, Gabe Alvarado singled and scored on Cohen Edwards’ triple for a 4-1 Polk lead.
The Wolverines added three runs in the fourth on a Bradley RBI single and a Jones’ two-run triple. Polk then scored four runs in the fifth to end the game by run rule, with Shook driving in one run, Thomas Bowen scoring another on a double steal and bases-loaded walks to Alvarado and Edwards bringing in the final runs.
Bradley finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, with Jones going 1-for-2 with three RBI and McEntyre and Edwards each 1-for-2 with two RBI. Shook, Beiler, Alvarado and Bowen each had one hit.
Polk County travels Friday to Mitchell for the final game this season between the teams.
