Polk County scored five runs in both the second and fourth innings to pull away from Mountain Heritage 13-4 in Tuesday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity baseball game at The Bottoms.
The Wolverines broke open a scoreless game with a five-run second inning. Simms Harris and Acer Eadus drew walks to open the inning, and Davis Holbert was hit by pitch to load the bases. RJ Simpson’s bases-loaded walk brought home the first run, Matthew Foy walked to force in another and Drew Young continued the rally with a two-run single. Brady Caroll’s base hit scored Foy to make it 5-0.
Polk County added three runs in the third to take an 8-3 lead, then pushed the advantage to 13-3 with another five-run outburst in the fourth.

Young earned the win on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing seven hits and three runs with three strikeouts. Asher Mullet pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts.
Young also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Simpson finished 1-for-1 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Acer Eadus went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
Foy added a hit, two RBI and two runs, Carroll went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Simms Harris finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Mullet contributed a hit and an RBI, and Holbert had a hit and an RBI.
Polk County (2-5) hosts Landrum on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
