Alex Perry scattered three hits over six innings and Polk County built an early lead to claim a 6-3 victory over Erwin in Friday’s non-conference baseball game in Leicester.
Perry earned the win, allowing three earned runs while walking six and striking out five. Nate Fagan pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
Polk County opened the scoring in the first when Gunnar Alm walked, stole second and third, then scored on Perry’s RBI single.

The Wolverines broke the game open in the third. Alm led off with a single, with Perry following with a base hit to move Alm to third. Matthew Foy, running for Perry, stole second before Noah Harden’s double plated Alm to make it 2-1.
Foy scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. After Nate Fagan walked, Aaron Jackson delivered a two-out, two-run single to push the lead to 5-1.
Erwin (0-2) pulled within 5-3 in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs, but Perry shut down the Warriors’ offense over the final four innings, allowing just two baserunners.
Polk County added an insurance run in the sixth when Foy reached base on a dropped third strike, Perry singled and Foy later scored on an Erwin error.
Perry led Polk County’s offense with three hits in four at-bats. Alm, Harden, Fagan and Jackson each added one hit. Foy contributed two stolen bases. With his two runs scored, Alm became the school’s career leader in the category, his 110 runs surpassing the 108 scored by Evan Rimer.
The Wolverines (1-1) host North Buncombe on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for their home opener.
