Madison Middle rallied for nine runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 4-0 deficit and defeat Polk County Middle 10-9 in Monday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball matchup in Marshall.
Polk Middle led 3-0 after one inning and 4-0 through three before Madison’s fourth-inning surge gave the Patriots a 9-4 advantage. The Wolverines battled back with five runs in the fifth to pull within 9-9, but Madison scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth on a hit batter, error, passed ball and sacrifice fly.
Oakley McDowell led Polk Middle’s offense with two hits, two RBI and two runs, including a home run. Brantley Hall added two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Lawson Yoder contributed two hits and two RBI while Carter Wood doubled and drove in two runs. Callaway Cameron had two hits, scored a run and stole a base.

The Wolverines staged their fifth-inning rally when Yoder and Wesley Turner opened with back-to-back singles, and Reece Turner walked to load the bases. Josh Odel’s sacrifice fly scored Yoder, and Jameson Clue reached on an error that allowed McDowell to score.
Hall’s RBI single and Cameron’s single set the stage for Carter Wood’s clutch two-run double that tied the game at 9-9 with two outs.
Wood started on the mound for Polk Middle, allowing two hits and four earned runs in three innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Polk County Middle (0-2) hosts Waynesville Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
