Oh no-no: Rugby holds Polk Middle hitless in 12-1 victory
The pitching tables turned Tuesday against Polk County Middle.
The team with three no-hitters to its credit this season became the victim of another, with Rugby holding Polk hitless in a four-inning, 12-1 victory at Polk County Recreation Complex.
With a stiff wind blowing out to left field, Rugby (11-0) took advantage, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. The Raiders ripped a number of base hits to the fences in the inning, during which Rugby sent 14 batters to the plate.
Polk Middle (5-6) scored its lone run in the second inning as Noah Harden walked, Sawyer Huff was hit by a pitch and Blaine Turner walked. Another walk to Kaleb McEntyre scored Harden, but Rugby escaped the inning without additional damage.
The Wolverines conclude their regular season on Thursday, traveling to Brevard Middle. That game will likely decide Polk’s seeding for next week’s Blue Ridge Conference tournament.
