Polk County will host Highland Tech in the opening round of the state 1A dual team playoffs, according to brackets released Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
It will be the seventh state playoff appearance in school history for the Wolverines, but the first since 2012. Polk County has a record of 2-6 in those previous appearances.
Highland Tech earned a wild card berth into the playoffs. The Rams finished 6-3 this season and were the runner-up in the Southern Piedmont Conference.
The first-round match will be played Wednesday, with the winner advancing to face 13-1 Lincoln Charter, the SPC champions, in the second round.
