Mountain Heritage JVs hold off late Polk County rally

Mountain Heritage scored six runs in the first inning and held off a late Polk County rally to win 9-7 in Friday’s Western Highlands Conference junior varsity baseball game in Burnsville.

The Cougars built a 6-0 lead in the first inning before Polk County cut the deficit to 6-3 with three runs in the second. Mountain Heritage added single runs in the second and fourth innings to extend the lead to 9-3, but the Wolverines battled back with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Wolverines pulled within 9-6 in the fifth on consecutive RBI doubles by Davis Holbert and Jarrett. Asher Mullet added an RBI single in the sixth to make it 9-7, but Polk County couldn’t complete the comeback.

Oakley Whiteside led Polk County with three hits in four at-bats, two runs scored and an RBI. Jarrett went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Acer Eadus and Brady Carroll each added two hits, with Carroll hitting a double.

Holbert finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Mullet went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Matthew Foy, Drew Young and RJ Simpson each contributed one hit.
