Three Madison pitchers held Polk County to four hits Tuesday as the Patriots claimed a 7-3 victory in Marshall in the Western Highlands Conference opener for both teams.
Madison (1-0, 1-0) took command of the game with a five-run third inning, grabbing a 7-1 lead, then kept Polk County (1-3, 0-1) largely in check the rest of the evening.
Trailing 2-0, Polk sliced that deficit in half in the top of the third as Jordan Bishop doubled and scored on Grayson Jones’ two-out triple.
Following Madison’s third-inning rally, Polk added a single run in the fifth on Coble Cameron’s RBI grounder and a run in the seventh on another Cameron groundout.
Bishop, Jones, Cameron and Jackson Beiler each had a hit for the Wolverines, with Jones scoring two runs.
Jordan Searcy took the loss for Polk County.
The Wolverines are slated to return to action on Tuesday, making their home debut with a WHC matchup with Owen.
