Polk County Middle’s Kendall McEntyre fires a pitch during Tuesday’s game against Macon Middle

Macon Middle used a big fourth inning to break open a close game Tuesday and hand Polk County Middle a 10-2 defeat at Polk County Recreation Complex.

Leaidng 4-2, the Panthers scored four runs in the fourth inning to take command of the game and hand Polk Middle (1-1) its first loss of the season.

Macon scored three times in the top of the first, but the Wolverines answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jayce Edwards and Alex Tipton each reached base with walks, then scored on Gane Alvarado’s two-out single to make it 3-2.

That would be all the scoring for the Wolverines, who did load the bases with two outs in the fifth but failed to score.

Alvarado and Avery Hensley had the only hits for Polk Middle.

Wyatt Cooley, the first of four Polk pitchers, took the loss.

Polk Middle is scheduled to travel Thursday to face Hendersonville Middle.
