Canton Middle School erupted for 12 runs in the third inning on Monday, rallying from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Polk County Middle 15-6 in Blue Ridge Middle School Conference baseball action in Canton.
The Bears sent 16 batters to the plate in the third, but scored their 12 runs on just four hits as the Wolverines made four errors, walked four batters and hit another. Canton added three runs in the fourth for the final margin.
The game started on a high note for Polk County (5-8). Wilson Edwards reached on an error with one out in the first, stole second and then scored on another Canton error on Tyler Harris’ ground ball. Holden Owens then followed with a double to drive home Harris, with Owens later scoring on a passed ball for a 3-0 Wolverine lead.

Harris walked to open the third and scored on another Owens double. Owens then scored on Bryson Ridings’ RBI single to give Polk a 5-0 edge.
The Wolverines added their final run in the fifth on Clark Phipps’ RBI single.
Owens finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases to lead Polk County, with Harris, Phipps and Ridings each having one hit.
Polk County travels to Bethel on Wednesday to wrap up its regular season.
