Hiltopper JVs explode late to top Wolverines

R-S Central held Polk County to a lone hit Friday en route to an 11-0 victory in a matchup of Mountain Foothills 7 Conference schools at The Bottoms.

R-S is now 11-2, with Polk County dropping to 3-9.

How it happened: The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the first, and then a pitching duel developed as Polk’s Piercen Edwards kept R-S in check. Edwards tossed five and a third innings, striking out five and allowing four hits.

But the Hilltoppers roughed up Polk relievers in the seventh, scoring eight runs on six walks, a hit batter, a Polk error and two hits.

Nick Sotomayer doubled with one out in the fifth inning for Polk County’s lone base hit.
