Hendersonville’s Manuel checks Polk Middle with two-hitter

Hendersonville Middle’s Truitt Manuel held Polk Middle to two hits Thursday as the Bearcats claimed a 7-4 win over the Wolverines in Hendersonville.

Manuel struck out 16 and walked four in the complete-game performance.

Hendersonville (2-1) steadily built its seven-run lead until Polk Middle (1-2) exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh.

Manuel took a no-hitter into the seventh, but hit Piercen Edwards to open the inning, then walked Kendall McEnytre and Alex Tipton to load the bases. Gabe Alvarado followed with Polk’s first hit of the game, a single that drove in Edwards and McEntyre.

With two outs, Karlan McEntyre laced a double that brought home both Tipton and Alvarado. Alex Perry followed with a walk and Bryson Jones reached on an error to put the tying run on first before Manuel got the final out of the game.
