First-inning fireworks power Raiders past Wolverines

Rugby Middle scored 10 runs in the first inning and defeated Polk County Middle 16-1 in Wednesday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball matchup in Mills River.

The Raiders added six more runs in the second inning to invoke the mercy rule after three innings.

Callaway Cameron had Polk County Middle’s lone hit, a double. Cameron also stole two bases. Reece Turner scored the Wolverines’ only run in the second inning after being hit by a pitch.

Rugby Middle improved to 5-0 while Polk County Middle fell to 3-5.

The Wolverines travel to Hendersonville Middle on Thursday.
