J.D. Edwards helped Polk County escape an early jam, then shut down the Asheville Trailblazers in relief to help spark the Wolverines to a 13-8 win Thursday at Polk.
The Trailblazers scored three runs against Polk County starter Brett Phipps and had the bases loaded when Edwards came on in relief. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and striking out two.
The Wolverines snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-6 with the win.

“It was definitely time for a win,” said Polk County head coach Ty Stott. “A two-game winning streak to end the week would be nice. We’ve done the first half of that.
“Now we need to go out and build on this and keep getting better.”
Tyler Harris finished 3-for-4 to lead Polk County at the plate. Noah Howell was 2-for-3, Edwards was 2-for-4 with a triple and Bailey Livesay and Zach Foy were each 2-for-4.
Polk County is back in action on Friday, traveling to Mitchell for a 6 p.m. Western Highlands Conference game.
