East Rutherford pitchers held Polk County to three hits Wednesday en route to a 5-0 win over the Wolverine junior varsity in baseball action in Forest City.
The Cavaliers scored one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings and added two more in the sixth to spoil the Wolverines’ season opener.
Angus Weaver finished 2-for-3 to lead Polk County at the plate, with Chan Barber going 1-for-3.
Barber pitched five innings, striking out five and allowing four hits and three runs. Casey Beiler pitched one inning, giving up two runs on two hits.
Polk County will travel Tuesday to Madison for a Western Highlands Conference clash.
