Polk County’s baseball season came to an end Tuesday as East Rutherford claimed a 12-0 victory in a third-round matchup of the state 3A playoffs in Bostic.
The Wolverines ended their season with a 17-10 mark. East Rutherford, the defending state 2A champions, improved to 21-5.
The Cavaliers opened a 4-0 lead after two innings, then scored eight runs in the third inning en route to the five-inning win.

Brandon Pinkerton homered twice and Malachi Dato added a solo homer for the Cavaliers, which also took advantage of a handful of Polk County errors. Three of those miscues came during the huge third inning and preceded Pinkerton’s second home run, a three-run blast to left.
Alex Perry and Aaron Jackson had the Wolverines’ only hits in the game.
