Polk County’s junior varsity baseball team mounted several offensive surges Monday but couldn’t overcome Chase’s consistent attack, falling 13-10 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference action at The Bottoms.

The Trojans (2-7) built an early lead with seven runs in the first inning and maintained their advantage throughout despite Polk County’s persistent comeback attempts.

The Wolverines (2-7-1) capitalized on Chase miscues to score five runs in the first inning without recording a hit, utilizing three walks, a catcher’s interference, a hit batter and an error to cut into the early deficit.

Polk County continued to battle in the second inning when Cooper Meyer singled and stole second base. After Matt Jarrett added another single, the duo executed a double steal, with both runners scoring on a throwing error to narrow the margin.

Chase responded with four runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead before the Wolverines answered with three runs in the bottom half. Aaden Denton started the rally with a single, followed by a walk to Callum Eadus. After Tyler McKinney was hit by a pitch, Oakley Whiteside and Jace Williams drew consecutive walks to force in runs. Meyer was then hit by a pitch to drive in another run before Chase recorded the final out to end the threat.

Meyer finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and three stolen bases to lead the Wolverines’ offensive effort. Jarrett went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Denton contributed a 1-for-2 performance with two runs. Whiteside added a hit and an RBI.

The two teams will meet again Tuesday, with the series shifting to Chase.
