Coble Cameron held Avery to one hit on Friday as Polk County claimed a 10-0 six-inning win over the Vikings at The Bottoms.
Cameron struck out 10 and walked just one batter as 55 of his 73 pitches were strikes. Ty Smith had the only hit for Avery, a two-out single in the top of the third.
The Wolverines improved to 5-5 overall, 4-2 in Western Highlands Conference play. Avery dropped to 1-7, 1-5.
Polk County pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first to grab a lead the Wolverines would never lose. Polk loaded the bases with one out on a Bryson Edwards single and walks for Angus Weaver and Cameron.
Jackson Beiler drew another walk to force in one run, with Micah Hill following with another walk for a 2-0 Polk lead. Chan Barber then laced a single to center to plate two runs and make it a 4-0 advantage.
Beiler drilled a two-run double in the second to up the lead to 6-0, with Cameron’s sacrifice fly in the third making it 7-0.
Beiler opened the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored on Michael Simoncic’s pinch-hit double. Barber singled and Shane Parris walked to load the bases with no outs.
A walk to Lawson Carter and a Brad Marcello sacrifice fly gave Polk a 10-0 advantage and ended the game by run rule.
Barber finished 3-for-3 with two RBI for Polk County, with Beiler going 1-for-1 with three RBI. Edwards, Casey Beiler, Simoncic and Evan Jones each added a hit.
Polk County returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Mitchell. Junior varsity play begins at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow. Both games will be streamed live on the NFHS Network.
