Polk County Middle showed early promise Thursday, striking first against one of the Blue Ridge Conference’s top teams before Brevard Middle rallied for a 13-1 victory.
The Wolverines (1-7) jumped ahead in the opening frame when Matthew Foy singled, advanced on Brantley Hall’s groundout and scored on Carter Wood’s groundout following Gavin Waldbillig’s single.
The Blue Devils (7-1) responded with four runs in their half of the first inning before adding single runs in the second and third frames. A seven-run outburst in the fourth inning brought the game to an early conclusion.
