Black Hawk JVs survive Wolverine rally for wild 11-10 triumph

North Buncombe scored six runs in the fifth inning to rally past Polk County 11-10 in Tuesday’s junior varsity baseball home opener at The Bottoms.

The Blackhawks overcame a 7-5 deficit with their fifth-inning surge, taking an 11-7 lead before Polk County rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

RJ Simpson opened the Wolverines’ final at-bat with a triple, and walks to Oakley Whiteside and Simms Harris loaded the bases with one out. Asher Mullet’s single brought Simpson home, and Josh Jarrett’s bases-loaded walk brought home another run.

With two outs, Acer Eadus followed with another RBI walk to pull Polk County within 11-10, but North Buncombe then got the final out to seal the win.

Polk County had taken a 4-3 lead after one inning and stretched the advantage to 5-4 after two. North Buncombe tied the game at 5-5 in the third before the Wolverines regained the lead with two runs in the fourth.

Harris led Polk County’s offense with a hit, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Whiteside scored three times, while Mullet finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Jarrett drove in two runs and Holbert added a hit and two RBI.

Eadus doubled and drove in a run, while McFalls contributed a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases. Simpson finished with a triple.

Polk County (0-3) is next in action on March 10 at Owen.
