Polk County pitcher Ben Middleton takes aim during the fifth inning of Wednesday's game

Polk County took an early lead Wednesday, but East Henderson stormed back to claim a 13-5 victory in a non-conference baseball battle at The Bottoms.

The Wolverines (0-11) pushed across a run in the first inning as Aaron Jackson laced a two-out single to score Aaden Denton. Polk held that lead until the third inning, when the Eagles scored three runs to grab the lead.

East Henderson then tallied five times in both the fourth and fifth innings, building a 13-1 advantage. Polk County, though, roared to life in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run response.

Tyler McKinney singled with one out, Will Jarrett drew a walk and Phillip Teague reached on an error to load the bases. Dakota Proctor’s base hit scored McKinney and Jarrett to make it 13-3, and Ben Middleton’s infield grounder drove in Teague.

Jaxtyn Virgil followed with another grounder that allowed Proctor to score with the day’s final run.

McCraw, McKinney, Gage Harden, Proctor and Jackson each finished with base hits for Polk County.

The Wolverines are next slated to be in action on Tuesday, traveling to Brevard for a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference game.
