Polk County’s junior varsity earned their first win of the season, handing Madson a 6-2 setback Tuesday in baseball action at The Bottoms.

The Wolverines (1-2) built a 5-0 lead after three innings en route to claiming the win.

Polk opened a 1-0 advantage in the second inning on Bryson Jones’ RBI single, then added two runs in the second as, with the bases loaded and two outs, Gabe Alvarado was hit by a pitch and Jones drew a walk.

The Wolverines added two more runs in the third on Landon Bradley’s two-run single, then capped the scoring in the fifth as Casey Beiler’s single drove hom Evan Jones, who walked and then stole second and third.

Bradley finished 2-for-4 with two RBI while Beiler, Bryson Jones, Evan Jones, Duston Shook and Daylin Bradley each added a hit.

Beiler earned the win, allowing three hits and striking out seven in five innings. Bradley pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

POLK MIDDLE TIES APPLE VALLEY: Polk County Middle rallied Monday from a seven-run deficit to force a 12-12 with Apple Valley in Blue Ridge Conference baseball action in Hendersonville.

The Wolverines trailed 11-4 after four innings, but scored eight runs in the fifth to take a 12-11 lead. Polk Middle had just one hit in the rally, a bases-loaded three-run double by Gunnar Alm, as Apple Valley pitchers committed two errors, walked four batters and hit two others.

Apple Valley scored once in the bottom of the fifth to force the tie.

Alm finished 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in three, to lead the Polk offense. Other Wolverines with hits included David Shook, Karson Scruggs and Sawyer Huff. Scruggs had three RBI and Huff had two.

Shook had three stolen bases as Polk Middle had six for the game.
